Didi is the Uber of China — a ride-sharing company, providing transportation services for close to 400 million users across 400 cities in China. It provides services including taxi hailing, private car hailing, Hitch (social ride-sharing), DiDi Chauffeur, DiDi Bus, DiDi Test Drive, DiDi Car Rental and DiDi Enterprise Solutions to users in China via a smartphone application. Didi Chuxing is estimated to be worth U.S. $35 billion, and it is the only company to have all of China’s three Internet giants — Alibaba, Tencent, and Baidu — as its investors.
DiDi has thousands of online servers, which need continual monitoring and analysis to ensure the best possible performance and uptime. DiDi wanted a customized DevOps Monitoring solution that was fast, customizable and scalable. DiDi chose InfluxData and its ability to cluster to address these needs.
InfluxData replaced traditional open source monitoring solutions like Zabbix and Nagios which could not address their scalability requirements. The result is that the Odin monitoring solution (internal name for their monitoring project) includes 4 core components (data collection, data storage, abnormal event detection and data rendering) that are all built using InfluxDB at the core.
They currently use InfluxDB clusters (33 nodes) to store all of their time series metrics and events.
